E is for Estate Sale!! One of my most favorite things to do on a Saturday. I have found so many gems and treasures over the years. And really GREAT buys too!! An old vintage 6ft. shutter divider was FREE!! ( My favorite price!) It was an ugly dark brown and so I painted it a shabby white. I took out the broken shutters and replaced them with lovely shabby fabrics in  blues, pinks and greens. Some are even vintage fabrics.

This was a great find too. A wonderful garden shed at an estate sale for only $50.00. It was dark wood and I painted it a sweet country blue with white trim. We love it and use it all the time in our garden.

This 5 piece wicker set was also a fabulous Estate Sale find. It was beige and pretty dull until…yep you guessed it. I painted it white!! And only $75.00 for all 5 pieces! I used vintage fabrics to make seat covers.

F is for Flowers These are some heirloom flowers we had in our garden last year. Foxgloves are a very old variety and are a very English flower. To me they are pure heaven!

We also planted heirloom Sweet Peas. They are so delicate and fragrant. One sniff and you’ll be hooked.

Come join in the fun as we celebrate February with our love for all things Vintage (that are lavender or purple) at the Etsy Cottage Vintage Purple Party! Let me share with you some of my vintage favorites. My 1940’s  lovely Nancy Ann doll. She is “Beauty” from Beauty and the Beast. I love these dolls they are so cute and have the sweetest little faces. Another delight of mine is collecting tea sets and cups and saucers. These are precious sets that have been given to me as gifts over the years. Here are a couple of little florals I’ve had placed around the house. The dried heart wreath is from the early 1980’s. And I still love it! I almost forgot about this cute little bear that I bought back in the 80’s from a darling little tea shop in Monrovia, CA called “FRILLS”. My girlfriends and I, used to just love to go there for their yummy tea sandwiches and to die for scones. ( complete with a lit sparkler on the top!) There antiques and gifts were wonderful also. And last but not least…. an old vintage white birdhouse that I adore. It is embellished with a vintage hankie and lots of lovely flowers. Even purple wisteria!! Here’s a closer look! I hope that you have enjoyed seeing some of my Vintage Purple treasures as much as I have enjoyed sharing them with you. I’d love to hear your comments. Now off to check on all your blog posts!!!

Trust me I’m a shopping Queen!!

Most of my earliest memories include DOLLS. Big dolls, small dolls, baby dolls or Barbie dolls. It didn’t really matter much to me, cuz I loved them all! I would sit and play with them for hours. Dressing them up in darling outfits, caring for them using diapers and bottles,  combing, brushing and even CUTTING their hair. Yikes! My Tiny Tears never did look the same after the hair cutting fiasco of 1960.

Anyway…

Pictured below are a few of my Nancy Ann dolls. I did not collect Nancy Ann’s as a child, but my love for adorable dolls brought them into my life a few years ago and I have been hooked ever since. Aren’t they sweet?

Dolls remind me of simpler times and of carefree childhood days spent playing and daydreaming.

Such fun, sweet memories.

So… here’s my question: What did you collect as a child that you still enjoy or collect today?

Leave a comment and share some of your memories.

Be sure to CELEBRATE!! Get out your red, white and blue duds! Throw your hair back in patriotic ribbon!

Don’t forget to DECORATE!! Your tables, porches and cars! Fly “OLD GLORY” high and proud!!

REMEMBER we are so blessed to be AMERICANS!!

Oh, and always “BUY VINTAGE” cuz that’s totally American!!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE!!

It starts with a lovely pink vintage tablecloth of red roses and pink hydrangeas. Add some very pretty dishes with a delicate cottage rose design.

Of course there should be fresh cut roses from the garden, displayed in a old English vintage pitcher.

A perfect setting for a delightful brunch, an English tea luncheon or just a fun get together with the girls. This was my Mothers Day table scape this year and  I figured since I am the only woman in my house,  I’m going to go for sweet and feminine. It was a fun and lovely Sunday for me, spent with my family!

Try using cottage pink and shabby roses for your next get together!

What makes you get out of bed early Saturday mornings? What makes you giggle when you find it, specially at a good price?! What makes your heart skip a beat??? and Why?

This is the theme of todays blog party. So be thinking about your answers to these questions, while I share with you some of the special things that I came up with.

Please feel free to comment. I love to hear from you….

The first thing that came to mind was getting up early for Garage and Estate Sales. They can be SO much fun and you can find SO many treasures here in California. Let me share a couple of vintage finds with you.

This is a country shed that I found at a Garage Sale several summers ago and we use it in our yard for a garden shed holding pots, seeds, sprays, and a few tools. It was a brown color when I got it  and I just had to paint it a sweet country blue. They were asking $125 dollars for it,  but I just kept waiting and coming back and at the end of the day and they sold it to me have it for $50!! I was so super excited!! What I forgot was that  it was  over 6 feet tall. How was I going to get  it home? Let’s just say where there’s a will there’s a way!!

Some other fun vintage treasures I love to come upon are old sewing notions, buttons, quilt squares, etc. I think they are so neat and I love using them in my craft and sewing projects.

Now on to Antique Shops and Thrift Stores. Two other places that make my heart skip a beat and where one of a kind treasures are always sure to be found.

I really feel lucky when I hit it just right and I stumble upon some vintage linens. They are near and dear to my heart! I have found wonderful hankies, doilies, napkins and lovely tablecloths like this one. They are bright and fun and really add to any table scape. This one I believe was $8 dollars! Score! They can sell on ebay for like $15- 45 dollars.

And now for my greatest find and biggest deal EVER!!

Take a look at this beautiful country cottage English China I bought for only $75.00. That’s right …I’m not kidding! $75.00!!  It is a 60 piece set. I’m talking 12 dinner plates, 12 salad plates, 12 bowls, 12 cups and 12 saucers. And here’s the killer… they are in mint condition and they even wrapped them all in paper and provided a box for me to take them home in. How awesome was that? I was so excited I could hardly breathe. If you are ever in Southern California you MUST go to Down Town Temecula. It is an antique or vintage lovers dream!!

Well gals, these are some of my “heart skip a beat, great deal, giggle” vintage finds.

What are some of yours?

April, 16th

Ok, here is my next favorite BLUE thing.

This a a darling bear that my husband gave me when we were dating years and years ago. He got it in San Francisco. She is wearing one of my OOAK vintage hankie dresses. I guess I am still a little girl at heart because I still love dolls and bears.

Check back gals I may still have a couple more photos up my sleeve!
